Team rider Tom Geilfuss Came in 27th out of 63 in the qualifiers of the Damn Am, even though that wasn't good enough to make the semi-finals we are still proud of him here at the shop.

Our good friends also did good, Andrew Cannon came in 13th, and Shawn Hale got a swift 4th place in the qualifiers.

Congrats to all three of you and good luck to Andrew and Shawn in the Semi's!

Team rider/ photographer Erick Gibson and co-owner Chris Donmoyer take a trip to DC to meet up with filmer Bobby Spero

Words By: Erick Gibson

I finally got a day off -- a day designated to be free of bizzyness. Probably I should've gone skating. A day spent skating is a righteous day indeed. A day that leaves you filled with peace and ready for a good night's sleep. Instead I chose to spend the day catching up with Chris Donmoyer. I've known Chris long enough that I should have known this choice would mean there would be little sleep and even less peace. The following is my sleepless, wild-eyed account of 16 hours spent running amuck alongside the residents of our nation's capital.

Why choose the District to showcase the subversive antics of Chris 'the Don' Donmoyer? Power and Money, of course! I wanted to catch the Richard Avedon: Portraits of Power photo exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. And I also needed money. I've been running a video-camera-rent-to-own business on the side and needed to make an overdue collection from a long-term debtor named Bobby Spero. And so, with power and money in mind -- Roadtrip to D.C. it would be.

Car parked and we're loose on the scene. "Son of a gun!" A trio of women accidentally wrap themselves into low hanging branches along the 17th St sidewalk. Chris and I struggle to weave our way through their jumble of tangled hair and bulging hip packs. We eat cafeteria style while waiting for my mark, Bobby, and my vidcam blood money.

Killer moments at the Avedon photography exhibit. Bobby, Chris, and I pass through decades of Avedon's photographs of politicians and soldiers, writers and activists, artists and napalm victims. Historical events are re-presented for us in black and white, image and text. Many years after they were written, we are still moved by the words of the Chicago 7. We ponder the tragic comedy of Charlie Chaplin fleeing America. Tragically, Bobby has to go to work. Actually I'm glad he has a job. I'm almost finished being a loan shark.

Chris and I aren't yet ready to leave behind the visceral experiences D.C. has to offer. Mt. Pleasant is designated as our next target. Intel has it that one can enjoy a quiet drink amongst friends in a dive bar atmosphere. While freestyling cuts from Xzibit's debut album, At the Speed of Life, we circle the block and try to draw attention to ourselves. Recon indicates TONIC has the highest probability of satisfying our primary and secondary objectives. We walk in around 6pm for the early bird special and intend to blend, go native. We fail miserably and are immediately recognized for the outsiders we are.

Chris and Erick are 1 beer buzzed beyond belief. Chris and Erick are 2 hobbit-sized short people in a federal world of tall buildings, bulging fanny packs, and broad suits with padded shoulders. Everywhere is a 2 hour parking limit. 6 minutes for a dime. But, Chris and Erick have been parked at this dark wooden bar top for 4 hours listening to 90's alt rock and loving it. It is October 2nd. The Vice Presidential debate is going to be played on the bar televisions at 9pm. The neighborhood patrons of this bar are all here. There is standing room only and the air is thick with alcoholic fume and socio-economi-political queasiness. Chris is frightened by the long walk to the toilet. But, Chris still loves his neighbors. He loves them each individually all night. He photographs all of them with his point and shoot digicam. Rage Against the Machine.

The debates have ended. Chris has made friends with an attractive female bartender. Is this an episode of Cheers? How is it we are still here after 4 hours and about to breach the topic of relationships with the bartender? Could these free wine coolers somehow have been the culprit behind our lack of mobility? The television offers Vietnam on DVD. "No thanks, we've got our own war to watch." Chris and the bartender pass notes to each other written on the back of credit card roll paper. Exactly how much credit card roll was used in the service of handwritten notes by 2a.m.? I will never know. But, my faith in the power of the 'Do you like me? Yes or No' checkbox note has been restored. Surprisingly, it remains a powerful means of breaking the ice with women. Who knew? It's so democratic. All American. Like voting! Try it. Use it. Let me know what happens. 6 hours of bar blending and we've gone native. We know the issues. We know the score. History was unfolding and Chris and I were there to watch -- right in the hometown of the political tug o' war.

2:30 a.m. The streets of the Capital are peaceful, though the nation and it's people are not. The stunt woods are out of the car and under our feet. 2 hours of cruising dark empty streets and then we're back on Rte 95. We head north talking loudly about the events of the day, so we can stay awake. Cafeteria style lunch, twenty one dollars. Gallery entrance fee with student ID, ten dollars. "Did you see that guy's penis?" Priceless. Watching Chris Donmoyer talk to women, while riding a donkey statue painted like a schoolbus...Epic.

New front window display...

For those of you that check this blog often you know that Gary was in Germany for the past two weeks filming for Fuel TV, those of you that don't check this often now you know. He returned from his trip thinking everything was exactly how it was when he left. But what he didn't know is that while he was gone Chris made the executive decision to put up a new window cover. Well needless to say he was very surprised when he drove past the shop on his way to pool league and saw himself on the window. It was pretty funny. We love you Gary!

New Team Riders!

It is with great honor to announce the newest team members:

Shawn Wixted

Shawn ripping Ridge

Words by: Shawn Wixted

I started skating when i was 12, kind of funny though because I guess skateboarding has always been in my life somehow..Growing up I would sit down on this old banana board I had and cruz down this hill in back of my house, usually losing control and crashing into trash cans..dam speed swivel haha! I remember one day I was at home just flipping through the channels, I was probably like 6 or 7 at the time but anyway I saw a skateboarding contest on TV, It caught my attention so i sat down and watched it, when the show went on a commercial break I ran too my room and dug out this old skateboard i had buried in my closet, then I ran back out to the living room and sat it in front of the TV..The show came back on after the break and I hopped on the board and tried to do some tricks like I seen on TV, it wasn't as simple as it looked, and I think I almost ripped my big toe off on the grip tape in the process..Well problems have solutions though right? so i ran into the kitchen grabbed some duct tape and hopped back on the board and duct taped my feet to it. When I stood up, caught my balance, bent down and jumped as high as I could...I guess its safe to say, from that point forward I knew what I wanted to do with my life...I'm 23 now and skateboarding is still the main focus of my life, to be honest with you I couldn't be happier...Every time I step on my board it takes me back to that day in front of my TV set...So when Chris asked me if I would like to ride for the shop, it didn't really take much thought...To be able to ride for a shop that in such little time has already done so much for skateboarding in Baltimore, sounds like a place id like to represent..I love what the shop is doing and where their going..Good people doing good things and I'm stoked to be apart of it....Thanks for believing...

-stay up

Dream until your dreams come true.......

Dan Corrigan

Words By: Dan Corrigan
so chris just asked me to write a blog about what i been up to as of late to put on the vu site to help introduce me onto the team. im pretty sure most people from maryland already knew i was on cus i been rockin vu shirts or you heard from someone at the local skateboard watering hole(ridge). id like to start off by saying that im so siked to be on the team. i been lookin up to dudes like gary and steve batton since i started skating. they were my hometown heroes I think chris an gary are down for the right reasons and got some rad gear in the shop so get your stuff at vu!

so yea since i got on vu i been pretty darn busy with skatin. i got on the team with a phone call on the way home from new york. within the next 2 days i was filmin in dc then had a few days to pack for a trip to arizona with my girlfriend/skate buddy/filmer/personal cook, frae. we went out their to hang with some of my family and to skate some ditches. we ended up skating the most fun spot ever called the super ditch[its the spot alex olson does that fakie bigger flip thing over that hip into the really long bank in fully flaired] the day before we left to head home i got a call from some dew tour people tellin me i got wild card invite to the salt lake city dew.

i had about 4 days in between az and dew tour so i hit up the reid menzer skatepark grand opening. it was a good time. a bunch of the other vu heads were their killin it. danny gallger aka team mate....i don't know why i don't call him danny, won the best line contest. so after my short stay home i headed out to salt lake and happened to be on the same plane as rodney jones. him and me ended up gettin a room together. the guy at the front counter of the hotel use to skate and had heard of rodney so he was siked and told us he would drive up to the park whenever we needed. the dew tour course was pretty fun but for the most part i just hung out with the other skaters and found out that adam dyet has the most sponsors ever. the dude has a suit sponsor how gnarly is that! i ended up getting 12 place and only top 9 made finals so i took the free money and the free mountain dew and headed back east.

when i got back me and boblits went to the philly am contest. they always are a good time. their just laid back and i get to see some old friends. ryan got 7th and i got 2nd but i think me and ryan really got first cus we had the most fun right? other then that i just been skating the reid menzer park a ton and hanging with the dank crew and my other friends

haha and as i am writing this i just got a call from dew tour saying that i got chosen for a wild card again wow that's funny. well yea if you read all this then awesome if you did not read this that's still awesome.
